I wanted to post about my experiences with a medium (+1") Calsci windshield on my Strada. I don't know if it's the +1" or the hole, but helmet turbulence is almost totally gone for me (5'4"), where my head was bouncing around with the stock screen.

Overload in Colorado

P.S. It's nice to be able to ride in January in Colorado.

Tried the Calsci windscreen myself. Found it to be far worse than the Ducati screen (I'm 5'9"). Called them up and tried everything they suggested including cutting the screen down but nothing much helped.

Started doing a bunch of experiments myself to see what worked and what didn't. Fabricated some simple brackets of varying length to put between the screen and mounting brackets. These brackets basically moved the Ducati screen up and back to varying degrees with the attack angle remaining constant. Also fabricated some spacers to put under the mounting brackets to mess with the attack angle. After several experiments, the best solution (for me anyway) ended up with the 2" brackets at the original attack angle.

My take on it is, it basically comes down to the position of your head relative to the wind screen. Every screen creates a "bubble" of comfortable air. This size, shape and location of this "bubble" is a function of; the shape of the screen, attack angle and then the height. Turns out that the Ducati screen is actually better (in the proper position and angle) than the Calsci. IMHO the "reverse kick" at the top of the screen does more good than harm (sorry Calsci…).

After settling on a position and angle that worked for me I set off to make a more permanent mount. Starting from the location and angle from my experiments I designed some mounts that maintain the original look as best I could while adding some adjustability. I have the ability to move the entire mount/screen assembly forward and backward as well as 10 degrees +/- of attack angle. I also wanted to add a GPS but couldn't bring myself to pay 800 - 1300 dollars for a "motorcycle" GPS. So I ended up buying a Magellan "car" GPS and designing and fabricating an enclosure to protect it from the elements. Added a spot to attach it to the windscreen mount.

A couple of photos attached, Thoughts?

What size Calsci screen did you use?

Might the GPS change the airflow through the Calsci hole? It's possible the kick lip on the top of the OEM screen pushes the air boundary up, but it wouldn't/ shouldn't create a smoother airflow. The Calsci hole should help smooth airflow by equalizing pressure and creating a more laminar flow. When I test rode a regular Diavel back in '11, I remember thinking how smooth the airflow was and how well the lack of any windshield worked, like a built in bikini faring.

As you said, it might be overall height and riding posture playing a large role too.
