I was traveling on the Gaden State Parkway In New Jersey when I decided to change from Touring to Sport. Afew minutes later, my ABS light came on. Since I wasn't too far, I decided to stap by the dealer to have the bike checked out. AFter about an hour waiting time, the technician told me that the problem may be a bad relay or a bad pump. Anyway, they won't be able to change either the relay or the pump until Tuesday June 12. Looks like I will have to ride without the benefit of ABS for a while.

Actually, it makes sense, I think. There is a fault code for the pump, and a separate fault code for the relay. But if hte relay is bad, it could - I think - cause the pump to appear bad as well, and trigger a spurious fault code. This scenario suggests that it is most likely (but not certainly) a bad relay.

Hi,
I also had DTC warning light-on a day after I've received my Diavel(sports-mode always). At the same time, my gear indication was jumping between gears while the bike's in neutral, it also can't indicate the correct gear for long while on the move. It later developed into the DTC cutting in frequently when accelerating gently and with the 'BBS-DTC' warning light coming on. So the agent had my BBS black-box changed - and this was on my 1st week of ownership. I hope this helps in your troubleshooting.

Or,... it might be that you had your DTC set to 'off' in the sports mode(owner's manual, page 41). Cheers, happy riding.

Took the bike to the dealer on Monday 6/11/12. Did not hear from them. Called them today and was told they have no idea what's wrong and awaiting word from Ducati as to possible cause.

This bike is my third new bike since going back to riding in 2007. The first two were Hondas (CBR600RR, and VFR800 Interceptor). NEVER a mechanical issue on either bike. This is my first Ducati and I am not used to the unreliability (quirkiness, "character", whatever one wants to call it). In order words, I am pissed!

i had the same issue, it was found to be a damaged/injured front wheel ABS sensor, it looked like a stick hit it. The guys recommended a ABS Sensor guard, which i got and fitted. 1000klm later and no issue, mind you i haven't been able to ride it for the last 3 months due to injury.

Update

The bike will need a new ABS pump ordered from Italy. It will take three weeks to arrive at the dealer and about one day to install. I offered the sensor suggestion but was told the sensor is fine. I am considering getting a beater bike to use when the Diavel is down. (I should've kept my 2007 VFR800)
