XDiavel and Touring?

Hi All,

New to forum, as I'm about two shakes from buying an XDiavel, so I've been lurking & learning. Long-time Ducati Superbike rider - went through 916/996/998 - stopped riding about 9 years ago because family.

Cut to 2017, and I have the ITCH again. But I'm 45 now. The back. She eez not so young. I won't be tracking anytime soon (I'll dust off an SV650 for that kind of fun again)

I'm torn.

I just can't do a superbike again as a main rider. I am absolutely in love with this sexy machine, the XDiavel. I test rode one locally, and had my mind blown. It was an erotic blast. I've no question I would enjoy this machine. MOST of my riding will certainly be day trips, local fun, and some regional jaunts, so in this regard I have no qualms about this style of bike fitting my need, and solving for my midlife crisis need sex appeal. This bike simply drips awesomeness, and I'm self-actualized enough to know that I want to feel badass on my ride.

But I think I'd like to start taking some longer rides - and ideally even take my daughter with me. This gets into real adventure touring territory, and I'm curious if any owners can tell me if this is simply not reasonable to plan for on an XDiavel. I can imagine getting creative with some luggage - packing light, and making a go of it. But boy, I sure did hit one pothole on my test ride, and it surely drives all bumps squarely into the spine. I think I could solve the windage - I felt like a spinnaker sail facing the wrong way.

But I also wonder if I might not get hooked on some touring. I have no doubt that if I wanted to cross country tour - i should be looking Multistrada et al. I rode a 1200s - and man that bike is nice to ride. It's also ugly, to me. But just lovely to ride.

Not looking for advice on my existential crisis - that is mine to solve. But has anyone really toured on an XDiavel? Can it be done? Aside from comfort - I simply loved my test ride on the XDS. I felt like my arms were being pulled from their sockets and f***ing loved it. If I could tolerate an 8 hour ride on it here or there, I feel like it could still be the way to go.

Talk to me, Goose...

I've just completed a four(4) month tour of Europe from Australia to the the Isle of Man TT on my XDS and ridden from john of groats to lands end in England. I covered 18,000 Km's and had 4 sets of tires so I reckon I could give you some pointers!

ridge, you the man! Not to say you can't tour on an XD, it's just not really what it was designed for. I used to ride with a guy that owned one bike, a Yamaha Vmax, and he did everything short of dirt track on the bike an he loved every minute of it.
A mate of mine made an 11ft chop out of a wrecked 900 fireblade and rode it to Spain and back. Is all about the rider ultimately I think, the XDiavel has quite a comfortable riding position so should be ok for touring.
I will find out soon myself, going on a 1400 mile trip around Scotland in 4 days with a buch of GS freaks so will find ot for myself very soon!
Riding position is good for driver not passenger. I have the c bow set up for mine and it works for me. Rode mine 473 miles one way last year to a bike week in Florida no problem for me. With that being said I read a lot of post on here about the ride for most being too rough. I understand what they are saying somewhat but I have have a good back so the stiffer ride doesn't bother me. Overall I would pick a different bike for real long hauls. But for 1 or 2 day trips if your back is in good shape you wont find a sexier fast AKA cruiser.

WoW! 3k mile run from Anchorage, Alaska???

Why not make it a 6k+ road trip, pass on down South to Big Easy?

We'll go for a ride...lunch is on me. I'll take you were the locals go.

Real long hauls?..Completely revamped 2018 Honda Gold Wing would be my KING! \

Except for passenger, especially if she's fat bottomed. They shortened up the ergo's a bit in that department to make more amenities for the rider.

Test rode one not too long ago....It's the ultimate La-Z-Boy recliner on wheels I'll tell ya!!!

I agree!
I think my x diavel is fine for touring I put a puig sport screen on and the extra comfortable Ducati seat. I had naked bikes before except for a bmw gs and think the xd is just as comfortable or more due to feet forward riding style which I find very relaxing. The proof will be in a months time there is 8 others going on a euro trip which will include a few days long runs so will know for sure after that. I love the look of the bike and will have Kriega 20&10 on the rear and a tank bag as luggage I aim to travel light.
