Should I trade my SF V4s for a V4 Diavel?

Hello everyone,

I'm new to this forum and would like to pose the simple question above.

I have a MS V4 PP for touring (doesn't have the character or urgency of my old 2014 MS PP but in every other way is an improvement).

And I have a SF V4S (lucky boy, I know) for shorter day trips. I'm in my late 50s and comfort is becoming more important to me. The SF is surprisingly comfortable but, as a famous reviewer put it, it just wants to go from A to B as quickly as possible. The riding position is also quite sporty which I'm not sure is the best for me. I love its handling.

I'm 5'9, and getting shorter, so the SF (and the PP for that matter) are a bit of a stretch for me. Never a problem but not quite confidence inspiring.

Should I trade? What will I notice as the main differences? Should I stick, while waiting for the inevitable Diavel V4S?

Your thoughts and experiences would be much appreciated.

I have a SFV4S and have just bought a Diavel 1260S as I was disappointed with the Diavel V4 if I'm honest

You can make the SFV4 more comfortable by adding Ducabike risers 20mm and the comfort seat but that doesn't change the fact it's still a missile
The Diavel 1260 is a bit of a Torque monster and is very aggressive in Sports mode and is actually quite a nice cruiser in Urban mode - best of both worlds - it's more comfortable that the SFV4 that's for sure and can do 170 - 180 miles on a tank - it is also confidence inspiring round bends as you have twice the level of grip at the back end so can power on earlier

It's a great useable bike see if you can test ride first
Where are you located?

Hi Mark,

Thanks for your reply and the tip regarding the bars.

I'm near Plymouth in the UK. I will test ride the Diavel but test rides are never quite indicative of ownership.

Why were you disappointed with the V4D? I know there's an unholy alliance between bike hacks and the trade but every review I've read suggests the V4D is a better bike.

Better Handling and has a nicer dash that's it - I prefer looks, build quality, low down grunt, character and fuel economy of the 1260S
The V4 is a bit dull and is not a animal it's a pussycat and I would just get bored of it in the end hence I bought a 1260S
The Diavel V4 is like a perfect Ducati Monster but with no character - the Streetfighter V4S 's engine is superb and is in a different league to the Multistrada V4 and Diavel V4 engine
Get a test ride and post back your findings

That is kinda why I went Gen 2....A bit more raw than Gen 3 but the Gen 3 has better electronics.
Whoever owned my bike put the Ohlins and Termi on it, so....I just love the looks of the red carbon.
Had they done a Gen 3 Red Carbon I would have been all over that.

As far as comfort the Diavel, esp Gen 3 is going to be a much more comfortable bike (than the SF) and its sportiness will surprise you.
I am still surprised how sporty my bike is.
Its basically a really fast naked standard to me.

Anxious to get another opinion on the V4 - so please test ride and let us know. :)

I am very disappointed that there are 2 versions of the V4. I really wanted the SF/Panigale motor in a comfy Diavel chassis.

My dream engine has the burst like our 1260, but for twice (or more) as long. Once it really erupts, the L-Twin is already at redline. I want to enjoy it longer..........
I finally saw the V4 Diavel at my dealer.
Feels smaller, maybe feels lighter sitting on it.
Nice bike but to my eye its just not as visually striking as the previous generations.
Subjective I know.
Then by the time you put the exhaust on it youre at 30k thereabouts.
That is a lot of money.
Nice bike, I am sure its a great bike and all and though I find it appealing I dont find it "oh so cool" like the previous gens.
Its growing on me I guess.

Im with you on this. I finally got to see and sit on a V4 Diavel. I was very underwhelmed. It felt smaller, more plastic and to be honest a bit bland lined up next to other Ducati's. I find visually the 1260s to be a lot more appealing and meaner than the V4.

I agree.....
Same thing with the Monster lineup.
Yeah, I know they shed a few pounds ditching the trellis frame, but IMO they lost something aesthetically.
The Monster kinda reminded me of a nice red Yamaha FZ07.
I like the Gen 3s more than the new one as well and I like the Gen 2 red carbon.
Again, not saying its not a better bike or anything, just for someone who already owns a Diavel I dont think they did enough to make anyone sell their current ride and dump a bunch of cash on a new one.

So then I looked at the Streetfighter V2.
Again, nice bike but .....IDK.....
I think if I were to dump my Diavel for something maybe a little more sporty it would be for a Monster 1200R.

I love the Panigale but at my age I cant ride those bikes anymore.
I love the MV Augusta's as well but the Dragster/Brutale is a little small, and the 1000R is too extreme in the riding position for me at this point.

I guess I'll just continue to enjoy the Diavel for awhile. :)
