My wife got me a Shift tech key less gas cap for the holidays and I just got around to installing it. It seems pretty straight forward by the included 5 step instructions.
1: remove factory 4 allen screws holding cap assembly to tank
2: remove 5 phillips screws separating cap assembly
3: loosely install the 5 new allen screws and nuts to original base plate
4: re-install baseplate with 4 factory allen screws
5: remove 5 new allen screws and install shift tech cap with same 5 allen screws.
DONE.... right?

Does this look right? It looks like the shift tech isn't flush with the factory baseplate (there is a little gap).

Can anyone take a picture of their OEM mounting base to verify that you have this small raised ridge?

I have the same ridge on my bike,
checked a YouTube video out on cnc fuel cap and on the video it also has the ridge. I have a rizoma fuel cap installed and with the rizoma kit and it came with a rubber gasket that goes around the top of piece you posted before you put on the cover
