This is to Unlock the Pillion Grab Rail - it pulls outward to allow the pillion to hold on to the bike (if they are brave enough) - I personally do not use this and would not have a pillion hold on this way - I much rather trust in a pillion belt or holding tightly on to me.

I have modified my two grab rails to facilitate a Competition Werkes number plate holder, now I have the original grab rail for this and when carrying a pillion I use an Ermax tail.

 

I mostly use that pillion grab handle to extend the area available for my large bag (no, not the 'better half'), it allows the bag to be a few inches further back than it would otherwise be possible.
The straps go around it too. It's handy.

 

I use mine as an airfoil, with an red adhesive created on NASA to reforce the grip when I reach 350km/h

 

I use mine the same as Coop - for a little extra tailpack + tiedown room.

 

I use mine to hang my dry cleaning on. I've ruined three shirts getting stuck in the back wheel though!

 

Modified mine into a projectile grappling hook for a Batman effect.

 

leave mine out for something to grab whilst putting the bike on the paddock stand.
