Fuel gauge errors

Hey guys. My fuel gauge has been intermittently showing no fuel when there is fuel. I read some threads and one of them claims if you put techroline in your tank it will correct the problem because it cleans the sensor. Problem is they suggest putting a whole bottle of techroline which would normally be for a 20 gallon tank in a car. I definitely want to get some opinions before dumping a bunch of chemicals in my Ducati. Please provide any opinions and knowledge on this. Thanks

IMO....The Diavel key fob and gas sensor are two most unreliable POS systems on the bike.
Goddamn defective fuel sensor almost got me killed one day during rush hour traffic +70mph on Interstate. While it displayed a good quarter of tank....
All of the sudden...like an airplane. it fell out of the sky! I knew it ran out of gas, felt so obvious.
Had to walk bike to gas pump next exit...About 10 minutes, 3rd of a mile. Wasn't very fun.

Not sure if it's the ethanol gas causing the problem or what?
My best advice, wait till it spits out a few gas sensor faults, bring it in for warranty replacement.
Until then, use your smart phone's Note Pad and record odometer mileage after every fill up...Tank full lasts about 120 miles or so.

Best.

Don’t even bother with the chemicals. It will just keep getting worse cause the fuel sensor is failing. Have the dealer replace it while it’s under warrantee. There is a new sensor for it. Remains to be scene if the new one is any better.

Don't even bother putting anything in the fuel. Get the sender replaced. Incidentally I replaced my nephews one in his 2014 Diavel recently and apparently they are on the 5th version!!

Thanks for the feedback. Does anyone know if techroline would be bad for the fuel injection or motor if I tried it. I don’t think I’m under warranty so this repair could be costly. If this other thread is right and techroline cleans up the sensor then it’s a cheap fix every couple years. Thanks
Might try and get ducati to replace the sensor for free since it's a known problem. they did my brake and clutch reservoir out of warranty.

Out of 2 year warranty...Order the sensor, download the shop manual, replace it yourself. Save the $130 hr labor rate. Prolly approx 2 hours labor.
It's not difficult procedure. Tank has to be turned upside down, just make sure it's almost empty before attempting. for least siphoning mess to deal with.

Only problem is...you still have to pay the stealership to reset the fault codes. Mine wants like 30minute labor rate to reset them.
Approx 60 bucks, JUST TO RESET THE FAULT CODES??? That's correct Sir. Thanks for your business....BOHICA.

A non Factory recall....Your stealership replaced parts out of warranty at no charge?
All I can say is call Ripley...WoW!!!
Count your blessings....

There was more to the situation. my bike had been in the shop for a few months waiting on parts for the starter recall. The shoo.had the parts but not the tools to fix it. I called ducati north America and griped about it. They sent the regional service manager to with the tools to fix the starter recall and while he was there he noticed the reservoir issue and had them replaced as well. That was nice of him. The bike went in the shop in December and I didn't get it back until mid April so I think he did it to placate me.foe the all the wait time. dealership also scratched my tank and had to repaint it but rhats a.whole different story lol. Bikes back now and just finished a 1k 4 day trip so that's all that matters.

For others looking for XD fuel gauge issue, here is a document that describes one reason some people have issues with the gauge (lots of tank top-offs without using enough fuel). I don't know if this is still an issue with newer XD models.
