The XD has been stroked out and torque peaks at 5000RPM to supposably smooth it out but HP is in 150's rather than Diavels 160's, the Diavel just felt more responsive! may be that XD was new with no miles on and still tight wheras Diavel had 1200 miles on so probably loosened up. I'll ave to try the XD again when its broke in to compare properly.

Yes, been looking at the Evotech Tail Tidy but the only problem is if you put a standard size plate on, it obscures the back lights! I was talking to some one who had put one on and his mate nearly ran into the back of him on a bend as he couldnt see his brake lights!! I put a black and silver plate on standard plate mount but a bike copper pulled me at the bike shop the other day and warned me to change it or I'd get a £100.00 fine!

Hi

I have been considering a Diavel for a couple years. I picked up my new Titanium #003/500 ( I understand Ducati has #001 and maybe #002) up last Monday and put on about 450 kms. I found the engine vibration rather high in Urban mode and reduced in Sport mode. When I accelerate the mirrors shake quite a bit. Also, the paint on the tank near the seat scraped off on my second ride. I think it was from jacket. Initially I thought it as dirt. After I tried cleaning it, I realized it was scratches. The metal of the tank was fine but the paint was scraped off. I picked at it a bit and found I could scrape it off with a finger nail. That tells me it's a very poor paint job. Shifting was stiff and had press the shifter hard to change gears. At times I found it hard to find Neutral and would get stuck between gears.

On the positive side, the bike handles great and the acceleration (compared to my 2011 Yamaha Vmax) is very reasonable.

I plan to take the bike back to the dealer some time this week and see what he has to say.

Any comments???

Thanks.

The matte paint on my dark scratched easily on the tank, I bought a carbon protector and it's been fine. Every bike I've had with a lean over the tank position has scratched except the Vmax. But that's plastic. If you get the paint fixed I think it will happen again unless you put some kind of protector down that you can remove, otherwise it's scratches or amprotector that still ruins the paint under it.

Shifting gets a little easier but it will never be as smooth as the Max. The best is when you get a false neutral between fifth and sixth at 120 mph! The Diavel definitely takes more work to ride but you get used to it

greetings fellow titanium owners, my bike is #54, last week the clear coat on the titanium panels began flaking off!! Ducati has agreed to ship all new panels to my dealer for replacement. However the question remains...what happened? Will this occur again? Has anyone else had this happen? My bikes are cared for well beyond the norm, using only the best products available. The only reasonable culprit would be that the clear coat and the titanium did not agree with one another, any ideas?

Thanks for everyone's input.

I took my Diavel Titanium to the dealer and left it with him. He and the service manager agreed there is a clear coat issue. The service manager said that Ducati would probably replace the tank cover. But the owner said nothing. So I will wait and see what happens. I thought the same as TCQuack, that perhaps the titanium doesn't take clear coat well. When I do get the bike back, as much as I don't want to, I will buy a cover (see link below). Why pay extra for a beautiful bike and then cover it up? If it's the only way to keep it from scratching, I will have no choice.

There are over 1000 kms on the bike now and it's also in for the 1000 km oil service. As mentioned the engine vibes and hard gear shifting have both smoothed out considerably and I'm really enjoying the bike. The mechanic said once the break-in oil is replaced the bike should run even smoother. I was riding the bike between 2500-3000 rpm. The mechanic said I should ride 3000-3500 rpm for a smoother ride. I'm getting the expected better gas mileage on the Diavel compared to the Yamaha Vmax VMX17. Now I'm not looking for a gas station every 100 kms - more like every 200+ kms.

Thanks again for your comments - more welcomed - cheers - safe riding.

The Ducati service manager called yesterday. Ducati is replacing the tank cover. He also said, that the Ducati rep said he won't replace it a second time. I do not find that reasonable, if there is an issue with the clear coat Ducati uses on the titanium. If I cover the tank and it starts to peel after a while, I think it should be replaced again. I am hoping that will not be the case. I plan to buy a cover. I will decide on one of the 2 below or I may buy both. I mentioned to the service manager, if there is an issue with the clear coat not adhering to the titanium and a tank sticker is used, the sticker could fall off taking the clear coat with it. He agreed. If I go with the complete tank cover, aesthetically the bike appearance with not be great. The look of the carbon fibre tank cover will look much better. But the carbon fibre will have double sided adhesive.

Here are my 2 choices;

You could do a clear bra made by GM and others custom cut, have it on the flat portions of the tank and other areas, of course I got a nick in the paint where it wasn't covered. I also have the bagster, while changing the look of the bike, I would use it for trips and if I want to attach a tank bag. It has a nice soft foam underside. Cheers!
