Good Morning All,
Picked up the next edition to our stable 10March2018. Shes a 2016 XDS, stock outside of the Ducati windscreen, with just under 800m on the clock. My local Ducati shop has the recall parts on order and plan to have that done this weekend as its still frigid temperatures around here. I love the bike so far, the ergonomics and flickability of the bike has had me mesmerized. This is me as a rider coming from sportbike crowd. I have to say comparing the two styles of "Technocruiser" and supersports are worlds apart for obvious reasons. I tend to over analzye things as I am an engineer by trade and at heart.
The jarring ride I keep reading about to me isn't as bad as it sounds, I have bad L4 /L5 discs and the seat and riding position are comfortable. I did notice over a couple badly maintained roads it can be a little jarring however the suspension has not been tuned to me. I am 33, 5'9" between 200-205lbs with very wide shoulders and I lift very heavy weights ~4x a week. The controls have been set back to the middle location from the previous owner and that seems to fit me well so far. I think I have watched just about every YouTube video on the web pertaining to the XDS that is in English anyway. One thing that is constant through many of these ride reviews is once you put on just a few minutes in the seat she does feel like an old girlfriend. You just get used to her and how she wants to be ridden. Yesterday was the first day I actually spent a few hours riding around and I felt no discomfort throughout my time in the saddle.
I tried out all the stock riding modes and I believe I will keep her in sport mode 90% of the time unless the girlfriend and I are out riding for the day (she rides a modded up R3 and will probably take over my 600rr). Urban seems decent too but from my limited experience I cannot tell much of a difference from Urban to Sport.
One thing I really want to ask the community is I have noticed the engine is rather harsh between 3-5K RPMs and seems to smooth out after 6k. Not sure if that is normal and she just needs more time to break in and have the ECU adjust themselves to my riding style or what. I could just be accustomed to the quick revving of supersports where the power is all above 8K and this powerband on the XDS is completely different. I do have another month and a half give or take for the factory warranty if anything is wrong.
I already have a list of mods going I would like to do over the next few riding seasons so I am excited about that. The stock exhaust rumbles and looks nicely but with a full face helmet I will more than likely upgrade to Termis or another aesthetically pleasing exhaust system.
Anyways, this forum has been a huge help and I look forward to adding too it.
