From Motorrad magazine. 2019 may see a Panigale swing arm and chain drive, plus maybe Ohlins suspension?

So they have taken the look of the X and adapted that to the characteristics of the original Diavel then.....
Doesn't really look like the X to me. Sure it shares some similarities like the belt covers and exhaust, but it still looks like an overweight pig compared to the slick cruiser look of the XDiavel. Downsizing the ridiculous looking scoops is an improvement for sure.
LOL that second shot is right outside the factory gates!

Looks ok, seems like they have gone back to the original Diavel with the X headlight.

The big scoops may be ridiculous but at least it doesn't have Harleyesque forward controls that blow a draught up your jeans......
I was in the factory last week and they had one of the production lines shuttered off from us, the guide told us it was the line for the new model and that is all she would say about it. I was at WDW 2018 talking to the guys on the Diavel stand, I commented that I liked the XD version with the peg's in the normal position but I did not like the handling of the XD and preferred my Gen 1, he told me to go to the preview stand where I woudl find something that I would be interested in, never made it to the preview but I guess it was this bike they were showing

... and at least they are functional, not like the Yamaha VMax and FZ-10.
I like it. Its a good mix of the Diavel and the xDiavel. I'll pick one up when it is a few years old. Just going to hang on to my Gen 1 Carbon though.

Seat height of current model is too low and footpegs are located too forward for me even though I am 5'4" tall. I expect higher seat and footpegs shifted backward of new Diavel.

I ride 1290SDR too. its motor has power like Diavel plus smoother pickup. I am aged 55. Recently I found the less bike vibrates the less my eyes get tired. Smooter motor is blessing.
But regarding feeling while riding twisty roads, I prefer Diavel rather than 1290SDR. Diavel's lower center of mass causes a sense of safety then I can become aggressive in turning corners.

I guess Ducati give the new Diavel stunning appearance at official reveal with Italian design sense belying negative anticipation on this site.

So I look forward to the new one.
Well said....

In these photos it becomes apparent it is really more of an updated OG Diavel than an XD and is made of parts of both.

Perhaps earlier posters have nailed it with the idea of being one bike to replace both, thereby reducing manufacturing costs but still allowing customisation of footrest and seat positioning to take the bike down either (Cruiser / Sporty) path.

If so, then Ducati are probably on a pretty good thing.

well that's just an artists impression, look how short it is, almost made to look as aggressive and nimble as a monster but muscular.

I would love it if it was going to be like that but i doubt it, interesting they are sticking with the core of the X in that they are using the X rear swingarm and suspension set up but chain drive as well as the X radiator which is more conventional than the Originals two side mount rads. I like it in the drawing and will be keen to see how the real one looks and if alby is on the money and you can either order it or mod it to be either sporty (me) or cruiser (others) then wow, that would be some bike.

To me the original is obviously much more sport oriented than the X, a toe in the water for Ducati, which made sense because their core customer base has always expected a sporty bike, with that accepted and Ducati seeing that more and more cruiser riders, HD and Metric are interested they made the X to cater for them, i guess it makes sense to combine the updated engineering from the X into the sporty character of the original as an update, hope so anyway.....

To me, the swing arm looks completely different than that of the XDiavel. More similar to the Panigale, but not the same. The frame looks like the X frame, though.

yeah could be. I haven't looked closely enough at either one to know but the suspension arrangement is from the X isn't it?

I'm not sure. The components are all Ohlins. The fork geometry looks like the X, and that seems plausible given the frame similarity. As for the rear, the shock connection points look different to me. Whether that also means a materially different linkage, I don't know.

And, of course, it's still under wraps, so all that stuff could change.
two more long months before it hopefully gets released.
wonder how much they r gonna price this thing at..

I love that bike...
Shucks, I gotta wait 3 long years before RPM1 warranty expires.

Like my Carbon Red...Didn't care what it costs. Like child birth, it happened.
