Riding safety should always be a priority for any rider, and to make your riding much safer, Alpinestars developed an innovative airbag system. Introducing the Tech-Air 5 airbag vest that you can wear under any jacket that fits. No tether needed. You just zip up the vest, close the magnetic flap, and the system gets activated. Inside, there is an electronic module that includes 6 sensors (3 accelerometers and 3 gyroscopes) that can detect the situation when an airbag is needed for protection.

Tech-Air 5 covers shoulders, ribs, chest, and back. A hard back protector that holds electronics and gas canisters is included. Bluetooth module allows for smartphone connectivity for live updates. The AI system at Alpinestars research and development center analyzes tonnes of data from tests and real-life situations to make the system even smarter and safer. When detecting a crash scenario, the system deploys the airbag in less than 40 ms.

We will probably see more of this type of air-bag vests in the future. Some are mechanical and others like Dainese and Alpinestars which are electronic.

Sees a lot of important specific information missing. Can't I just be the one wondering the same thing?

It says nothing about the life of the battery? - not on the website it refers to either.

USB mini / C? what type of charging is required?

How about riding with the vest under charge?

Understood it requires some "space" under the jacket. But this information is also missing here. Read 4-5 cm (40-50 mm) space. But what does that mean? I already have jackets with snug fit just so that the protection will be in place by accident. So if I have to re-buy all my jackets one size bigger it will be expensive.

Riding with a discharged vest will probably provide poorer protection than inserts?

Washing and maintenance? How is cleaning done by the vest?

    Hello,
    Thanks for reaching out!
    Here's what the manufacturer says:
    • Rechargeable Li-ion battery provides 30 hours of riding time
    • Magnetic micro USB charger included (what it means, it has a normal USB plug on the other end to be used with any charger.)
