I ran mine about 12 miles after the light came on and when I filled up the tank it only held 3.73 gallons. So far that is the most fuel I've put in it. I don't see how it could hold another gallon after the check engine light comes on plus 12 miles.

I ran mine dry also. I couldn't fit anymore than you could either. Maybe if we had tipped the bike to the side of the fuel pick-up we could of went further?

It doesn't make that much of a difference on the side stand or straight up. I fill it till the gas touches the plastic fill tube.

Keep in mind, US gallons are smaller than euro gallons. The US model fuel cell is supposed to be 4.22 US gallons, 3.51 Imperial gallons. If you filled up 3.75 US gallons, that would mean you still had nearly half a gallon left before fumes. I generally have my fuel light come on like clockwork at 100 miles and fill up around 3 gallons.

The manual says, "Fuel tank, including a reserve of 4 cu. dm (litres)"

I put 3 tanks in today, each no more than 13-14 litres. Reserve light wasn't even on. Average mpg varied between 44 and 46mpg (UK) indicated.

Some motorway work (up to the run-in limit), but mostly A-road variety.

Am I not trying hard enough??? :+1

*edit - just checked my receipts...

I just did 22 km on reserve and it took 14.39 litres. That's 3.8 Gallons.. There should have been over 2 litres,
half a Gallon US in the tank as well as the 3.8 Gallons. In my book it says 17 litres AU and 16 Litres US..
16 litres is 4.2 US Gallons.. 17 litres is 4.4 Gallons US.. CRAZY... All i know for sure is that i can go at least 22km at 80km/h in 5th gear with the fuel light on.

The US tank is one liter smaller because of an indentation that accommodates the charcoal vapor canister required on US vehicles.

Has anyone tried mounting an auxilliary fuel bottle in case of emergencies - trying to find one that looks good is a challenge ...

I don't think achieving both is possible. If I was going on a trip where running out would be possible I would probably carry a 5L can or maybe just a small bottle in my bag just to get a few miles further on. Is it possible to go 120 miles in the UK without passing a garage? Maybe in Scotland?

Even in Australia, you need to be in the outback to go more than 200km (120m) between petrol service.

However if planning such an adventure.

I've been using Android App "Fuel Log" for along time now.

Max fill up was --> 16.69 liters (4.409 US GAL). Did 221 Km (137 miles) - That's 7.55 L/100Km

I didn't run out off fuel.

Mine is a Euro 17 Liters bike. Is 13 months old and has 19300Km (12000 miles)

From my calculations 17 liters are 4.4909 US GAL. So thats 4.5 US GAL not 4.4 as see writen often.

I just filled to the bottom of the filler tube from having ridden 35.8 km after the low fuel light illuminating.

It took 15.69 litres.

I am still running in with around 600km on the clock.

My average fuel consumption according to the display is 5.9 l per 100km.

Filled mine today and the light came on just past 100 miles. I rode past the light 5 miles before filling. It took 3 gallons to top off so I am assuming that I have about a gallon left in reserve.

I can do around 230-240 kms with a full tank, driving in motorway with speeds like 130-180 kms per hour. Yellowlight comes up at about 200kms, fast driving is a different story, yellow light comes up at about 140-160 kms and runs dry at less than 200 kms
